Resources for Women

  • Municipal Elections in Canada: a guide for women candidates - The Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) provides some helpful tips and direction to assist women wanting to engage in the political process as candidates for election.
  • Equal Voice - A network established to engage women from all walks of life to take an active role in ensuring women are equally represented in public life.
  • The Shannie Duff Story - Learn more about one of Newfoundland and Labrador’s longest-serving female municipal leaders. Equal Voice recently profiled St. John’s politician Shannie Duff on how her presence and the presence of other strong women have helped to change city hall… and preserve St. John’s culture and heritage.
  • YMCA’s Y Act Up - A civic-engagement and leadership program for young women, YMCA’s Y Act Up provides young women with opportunities to enhance their leadership skills, build community and become agents of change, all while improving their connection to their community and Canada.
  • Women in Leadership: Perceptions and Priorities for Change - The Conference Board of Canada’s latest report on the numerous positive impacts of having women in leadership roles and the many ways we can work together to ensure a more equitable representation of women in key leadership positions!   • CIVIX - Building students into citizens through a variety of programs. StudentVote is just one of the programs that allow students to vote in parallel mock elections. In 2011 the provincial government of Newfoundland and Labrador partnered with CIVIX and 7578 youth voted in our October Provincial election. Click here to check out the results.
